Ambient! Muddled! Estranged! and Emancipated!
Korean American musician Yi Sung Yol is back with his album, [V]. After making his debut as a two people modern rock group, 'U&Me Blue,' Yi Sung Yol has been called the ‘Pioneer of modern rock’ in Korea. Seeking for something new everytime he releases an album, the Korean tried to embody the vividness of the stage in his album this time. Six of the ten tunes are recorded in a small concert cafe Veloso, and the other four tracks are recorded as one-take live from the studio. The one thing he tried to preserve in this album was the sense of chaos and unrestraint with all the instruments and vocal muddled as one uniform sound. The album itself was a daring challenge for him as he also added the sound of Vietnamese traditional instrument, Dan bau. However, after going through all the challenges he met creating this album, Yi Sung Yol says that he has gained more confidence and certainty about his music. Now he proudly introduces his new gems to the audiences all around the world.
